Night Lights in June

Last night I lay in bed smelling the fresh air through my open window. It was a dark night and my eyes were drooping, but I like to look outside before dropping off to assure myself that the outdoors is still there.

I glanced out to see the yard was full of sparkles.

Fireflies were out and flashing messages to each other. They flitted high in the trees and low among the grass, sparking here and there.

I watched until their language flowed through me, describing the taste of night flowers and the scent of spring grass. They shared their joy in the dark night and I realized I was asleep and hoped I would always remember how beautiful they were.

Thanks for looking,

Stay well, be curious, love diversity,

Kate
