I was out of the house before I had a chance to write anything this morning. When I got home I looked back over the day for a particular moment of happiness. I realized it’s a different process, thinking about what I enjoyed today, instead of noticing the spark when I felt it. Instead of a specific moment I thought about a longer period of time.
In particular, this morning I spent several hours on a boardwalk with two women I’m doing a project with. We were looking at all the life – plants, frogs, dragonflies, mystery bugs, birds, butterflies, – we could see. It was a wonderful time. I enjoyed their company and we saw lots of life. It got me out of my head and I returned home refreshed.

Now, after a week of “practice” I’m going to stop doing a daily check -in and instead drop a note when I feel inclined. It’s been fun to think about what brings me happiness and it has given me a cheerier outlook on those gray days when I felt inclined to go back to bed instead of facing the day.
I’m going to continue to look for – and notice – those moments and I encourage you to do the same.
Thanks for looking,
Stay well, be curious, love diversity,
Kate
