Winter Flowers

Winter is a quiet time. I tend to walk more quickly and pay less attention to what is close by. Instead I see the big picture; the way the sun shines through the snow on the pines, or a white hillside with shadows making silhouettes.

Recently, I’ve noticed the dried stalks of flowers, more precisely, the dried seed pods. Who knew winter flowers could be so beautiful.

Below are a few of my finds.

Tall Thimbleweed (Anemone virginiana)
An Aster of some type, perhaps New England Aster, (Family Asteraceae)
Docks and Sorrels (Genus Rumex)
Selfheals (Genus Prunella)

The captions are my best guess as to plant id. Feel free comment if you disagree.

Thanks for looking,

Stay well, be curious, learn things.
