Winter Birds

I was out walking along a dirt road and I heard a high pitched, trilling / whistling sound. I immediately stopped to find the source. Overhead was a flock of 20 or so Bohemian Waxwings flying around eating berries. I stopped to watch enjoying the color that flashed as they flew. They didn’t seem to mind me hanging out with them. I moved slowly at first, trying to get a good shot, but when it became clear they didn’t care, I relaxed and got my shots. I stood for quite a while after just enjoying the show. Then a car came along and we all dispersed.

The merganser I came across a few days later. He was hanging out on the river with a female. They were much more cautious and paddled off downstream before I could do more than catch a glimpse. The path to the river is short and curves to drop me directly into sight. I quite often startle someone into flight when I approach. Perhaps I’ll one day learn to sneak up on the river, just in case.

Thanks for looking,
Stay well, be curious, learn things.
